Description

Creation is what I life for. Creation is life.

These are the words I've been living by ever since becoming an official author. Now that I've decided my ultimate goals, my passion for life has never been stronger.

As the title suggests, this digital self-portrait is meant to be a sequel to "Straniero" which I painted in Photoshop two years ago. With this in mind, I intended to contrast with "Straniero" in every possible way (e.g. composition, color, etc.) without blowing this out of proportion.

As I was reading about constellations in a book called "Eyewitness Companions: Astronomy," I felt inspired to draw a tribute to my zodiac constellation (i.e. Leo). However, I didn't want to draw something too similar to "Astraeopolis." So, after making a few rough sketches, I decided to make the final piece a fantasy self-portrait.

The primary composition was influenced by Caspar David Friedrich's "Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog." I loved the concept of a lone wanderer gazing into the distance from an incredible height. I'm sure that anyone in his shoes would feel like they're king of the world. That's what influenced the final composition for this self-portrait.

Also, since I was aiming for a fantastical colour scheme which complemented both warm and cool colours, I found this piece rather challenging to colour. To make things easier, I observed Paul Cézanne's vibrant paintings of Montagne Sainte-Victoire. Each painting depicted the same mountain from a different perspective and, more importantly, with a different style and set of colours.

That's all I have to say for now. Thank you everyone and please take care.
